With all eyes on Denver this week, the Guantánamo cell tour makes a stop
outside the Democratic National Convention to bring the issues of torture
and illegal detention front and center.
After touring just four cities, thousands have visited the life size replica of a prison cell at Guantánamo Bay. Check out the cell tour blog for images and video.
But we need your help to continue touring the cell until Guantánamo is closed.
The new documentary, Trouble the Water, depicts the experience of
9th Ward residents trapped in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Three years ago this week, Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast.
Today, tens of thousands are still trying to pick up the pieces and return
home.
Some of the largest public housing facilities in New Orleans have already
been demolished to make way for new construction. The Gulf Coast today has
fewer affordable housing options available. Residents who were once able to
afford housing, may no longer be able to afford to return home.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received the Nobel Peace Prize for her human rights work. She is also one of the 1,850 known political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Myanmar.
Celebrate the work of human rights defenders around the world by taking our quiz to find out what kind of activism you embody.
Are you focused on domestic issues like Cesar Chavez? Do you value peace above all things like Gandhi? Maybe, like Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King Jr., your faith inspires your dedication to human rights.
Whatever your style, remember that everything you do makes a difference.
"Myself, my son Mohammed and my wife Asma thank all Amnesty International members for supporting me and for supporting human rights. We will work hard with them together until we achieve peace for all people in the world. I will never forget their help and I will pray for them. I ask them to keep praying for me also. I will be glad if they continue their relationship with me, are in touch with me in my life and help me with my new job."
