Stop executions and floggings of child offenders in Saudi Arabia
Stop executions and floggings of child offenders in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia at the current time, at least three juvenile offenders face imminent execution, while another may be sentenced to death in the near future. Two more child offenders have been sentenced to flogging. Saudi Arabia is a state party to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Urge King Abdullah to respect this international commitment and end the execution and flogging of child offenders.

Stop the execution of Soghra Najafpour in Iran
Stop the execution of Soghra Najafpour in Iran
Iran is one of the last countries to execute child offenders (those under 18 at the time of the offense). There are almost 140 known juvenile offenders awaiting execution in Iran, but the total could be much higher. Many were convicted in flawed legal proceedings. There has been some recent progress; one juvenile offender was pardoned and two others received one-month reprieves. All three had been the subjects of intensive campaigning by human rights activists. PDF format | RTF format

Help Save Troy Davis
Help Save Troy Davis
Troy Davis was sentenced to death for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia. The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even during the trial. Since then, all but two of the state's nine non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony. Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis. PDF format | RTF format

Domestic worker Rizana Nafeek was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabis for a murder committed while she was just 17 years old. Saudi Arabia is a state party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which expressly prohibits the execution of offenders for crimes committed when they were under 18 years old. Rizana Nafeek is believed to have appealed against her sentence, but if her appeal is unsuccessful she could be executed within days.
